Stunning: Singer Janelle Monae arrived at the CFDA Fashion Awards looking beautiful as usual in a well-tailored look on the red carpet. The custom caped was designed by Tadashi Shoji. Monae spoke with People about the look, “When brainstorming with Tadashi and my stylist Maeve Reilly, we were inspired by a black-and-gold cape jacket from his collection. We decided to recreate it into a white-and-gold cape dress, since I had never done a cape-dress look. We wanted to really embrace Tadashi’s aesthetic and incorporate my signature style elements mixed with enchantment, regality and wonder — all in one look. This was the perfect marriage, and I’m so happy with the final result.” She discussed further her love for Capes, "I've been wearing custom capes during stage performances. The trend makes me feel like a superhero. She adds, “I feel classically futuristic, unique, powerful, mysterious, and fun. My creative team and I really enjoyed our first meeting with Tadashi. We had lots of laughs as we brainstormed different ideas and tried on different items from his collection — past and present.”
On an episode of their hit reality series Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian announced that she and husband Kanye West are expecting their second child. The West attended the 2015 CFDA awards in New York and Kim took the opportunity to debut her baby-bum or lack there off.
After designing such an incredible look, it made sense to take the singer as his plus one to the Award ceremony. Designer Shoji said to People that he had a pleasant experience working with Monae and her team. He further said, "I am so thrilled to have Janelle as my guest for this year’s CFDA Awards,” This is both of our first times attending so it will be fun to experience together. For the CFDA Awards, I wanted to build on the momentum from last year’s Met look and fuse Janelle’s signature style to create a statement piece. To keep it young and playful, I decided on a shorter cocktail length silhouette and kept the drama in the detailing of the cape, which is embellished with richly embroidered gold paillettes that work beautifully against the white,” the designer explains.
German actress Diane Kruger (left), model Petra Nemcova (middle) and designer Tory Burch (right) all added pop of colors and elegance to the event as they walked the red carpet.
Beautiful: Empire star, Taraji P. Henson looked incredible in this long maroon dress.
Model Gigi (left) and her sister Bella (right) both looked beautiful as they arrived at the award. Bella (right) had a recent spread in Elle magazine.
Perfection: Super model Chrissy Teigen looked absolutely stunning. Her makeup, hair and her entire look is flawless.
Fine Wine: Actress Ashley Judd is aging effortlessly and looked amazing in this gold and beige gown with the train.
Simple: Former singer turn fashion designer, Victoria Beckham kept things simple as usual in a long black dress. This wasn't our favorite of the night, but she's Victoria Beckham and in a way was able to pull the look together. Simple and chic.
Styling: The former Fashion Police host Kelly Osbourne, knows a thing or two about fashion and did an incredible job finding a dress that flatters her body-type and a top that compliments her purple hair.
Boss: Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her daughter Bee Shaffer were also at the event.
Class & Grace: Emmy Rossum looked incredible and radiant in her all black look.
Unique Style: Many do not understand Ashley (left) and Mary-Kate (right) style and fashion choices. To others they are mostly a miss at events. The all black does nothing to flatter their figure.
Elegant: Vanessa Hudgens (right) look elegant, so did Katherine McPhee (left) who was a little unrecognizable. Maybe it's the glasses.
